Becoming a Christian
When it comes to giving your life to Christ, remember A-B-C:
Admit that you are a sinner and need forgiveness.
Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the cross and rose from the grave to bring you to God.
Confess, through prayer, that Jesus Christ is the only way to God and commit to live for Him the rest of your life.
-
1) You were made by God and for God and it is only in God that you will discover your identity, meaning and purpose; God loves you and wants a personal relationship with you
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life - John 3:16
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full - John 10:10
-
2) People are sinful; sin has separated us from God
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God - Romans 3:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord - Romans 6:23
-
3) Jesus Christ is the answer to the problem of sin; He's the only one that can bring us back to God
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” - John 14:6
But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us - Romans 5:8
-
4) You must personally receive Christ as Lord and Saviour and trust Him to forgive your sins; this is a choice to choose to live for Him
Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God - John 1:12
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me - Revelation 3:20
If you'd like to become a follower of Jesus and make Him the Lord and Saviour of your life, you can pray this prayer. Say it out loud and from your heart:
“Jesus, I acknowledge that I have done wrong things and that my sin has separated me from you. But I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead. Today I ask for your forgiveness and thank you for your gift of new life. I receive you as my Lord and Saviour. I choose relationship with you and I choose to live for you. Please come into my heart and change my life, now and forevermore. Amen.”
